Surrogacy Support Group for Intended Mothers
Having a baby through gestational surrogacy can bring feelings of excitement and hope, but also isolation. A support group offers participants to connect with others who are also building their families in this unique way. Over a series of six meetings, group members will discuss a range of themes that accompany the surrogacy experience, explore their hopes and fears, and most importantly, trade support with others who can truly relate.
The group is offered in two related, but distinct tracks: one is for Intended Mothers who are first-time moms, and the other for Intended Mothers who carried their first pregnancy and require the help of a surrogate to have another child.
I am currently enrolling new members for both groups. If you are interested in joining, or just learning more, please contact me to set up an introductory phone call.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
-I am still considering surrogacy but would like support. Do I already need to be matched with a surrogate to join the group?
No, you do not need to be actively working with, or matched, with a surrogate (also known as a gestational carrier (“GC”)) in order to join the group. If you are still in the “consideration” phase, you are still welcome to join. Typically, participants are in the early stages of the surrogacy journey, such as the matching stage, preparation stage (e.g. legal or medical clearance), or working with a GC who is in the first half of pregnancy.
-What is the format of the meetings and the group?
Meetings are held over Zoom for 80 minutes, typically every other week. The group is run as a cohort, meaning the same small group of women meet together for six meetings. The meeting dates are set with input from all group members to schedule around known conflicts. In past cohorts, many women have formed strong bonds with each other and have chosen to stay in touch after the final group meeting for lasting community and support.
-I’m interested, but not ready to join right now. How often do you start new cohorts (groups)?
I start new cohorts 3-4 times a year, based on interest. If you are interested, but not yet ready to join, please feel free to still contact me so I can note your interest.
